IVBNG Minutes for February 18, 2009

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

11:30 a.m. Greg McGovern, President called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

Announcements:

We currently have 56 members!!

Rich Marion, Social Chairman – February 26th 6:00 p.m. at the Reliance Inn.  It will be open to the other BNGs.

RSVPs and money is due in today.

Quakertown BNG meets on Tuesday mornings

Phoenixville BNG meets on Wednesday mornings

Collegeville BNG meets on Monday mornings

Senior Resource Network is going to be looking at our bi-laws.

Greg McGovern is our President.

Rich Marion is serving as our Social Chairman

Craig Wiggins from Keystone Technical is our Vice President.

Jean Wieder from Harleysville Savings Bank is our Secretary.

Guest Speakers:

Sherri Gill from Patriot Benefits and Greg McGovern from Edward Jones.

Sherri Gill is an account executive at Patriot Benefits Group, located in Hatfield.

Patriot Benefits provides insurance benefits for small (sole proprietor or 2 people) to mid-sized companies.

The owners, Carsten Pedersen and Flemming Pedersen, started the business in 2003.  Carsten is a former

executive in the insurance industry.  Flemming is a CPA and former executive in the public accounting industry.

They specialize in group benefits, which offers lots of options for companies searching for insurance benefits

for their employees.  Besides health insurance, they also offer disability, dental and life insurance.  Sherri

can help you cut costs by looking at the way you structure your benefits package.

Patriot Benefits is a customer service oriented company.  They do all claims administration.  They work one-on-one

with their clients’ problems and issues relating to billing, enrollment, etc.

They are one of the few brokers to offer Builders Benefit.  This is offered to builders, realtors and

businesses within a certain SIC code.  The health insurance is a PPO, not an HMO.

Questions:

Universal healthcare – it will be difficult due to each state having different rules.  Within each

state, each county has different rules.  Also there would be underwriting issues.  There are pros and cons

for this.

Will one employee’s health issue increase premiums?  One employee won’t make rates increase.

If there are several underwriting issues, it goes to Blue Cross.

Stimulus – on the news it was stated there will be money for COBRA for newly laid off employees.

There are no details about this incentive as of yet.

Health Savings – it is a good deal if you have the money up front.

HMO – Health Maintenance Organization – you pick a primary care doctor.  Specialists need a referral.

PPO – Personal Choice. You can go anywhere at any time.

Greg McGovern – If someone is laid off in your home, see an advisor.  Get advice before making any steps in

regard to health insurance, 401Ks, etc.

Greg McGovern with Edward Jones

You need a recovery plan for investments.  Review your portfolio.  The news media reflects a negative

aspect on the economy.  You need to diversify, a well thought out plan!!  Weddings are thought out well in

advance.  It takes time and planning.  The vacation you are taking, takes time and planning.  So should retirement.

What planning have you done to reach your date to retirement?

Where is your income going to be coming from when you retire?  401K?  Social Security?  Pension?

Will those things be there when you are ready to retire?

Do you have a will?  If not, the state has one for you.

Life insurance is money passed on tax free to the next generation.  Set up the next generation.  Look into

estate tax considerations, see an accountant (Sue Bevil).

Greg works with local attorneys, accountants to service all his client’s needs.

Stretch IRAs – keep money away from Uncle Sam, giving it to children and grandchildren instead.

Where are you today?

Where do you want to be?

Can you get there?

HAVE  A  PLAN!!

Your advisor can get you there and help.

How do you stay on track?

Greg will make sure you stay on track to reach your goals!

Testimonials:

Molly Fisher from the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce mentioned how the women’s networking group (TEAMS)

met at New Life Youth & Family Services last year for lunch.  Prior to that event, neither she nor Harleysville

Savings knew anything about New Life.  Since that time Harleysville Savings has donated furniture, time in painting

one of their rooms and their employees got together to get some of the youth Christmas presents.

Greg McGovern from Edward Jones is part of the Harleysville Rotary.  They meet each Wednesday morning for

breakfast.  They have “Change for Change”.  Each Rotarian empties the change in their pockets weekly.  The recipient

for the next few months will be Manna on Main Street.

We are looking for ways to reach out to Antonio Lombardo’s family.  Antonio was killed at his pizza shop down

the road a few days ago.   The IVBNG’s purpose is supporting businesses in the Indian Valley.

If you need an advisor or a group of advisors for your business, tap into the IVBNG members.  Use each other!

Kelly McPeak from Arbonne International thanked Bev Gwozdz from An Extra Hand Organizing for her help in

getting organized!

Kelly also mentioned her children loved Arts n Sparks!

Justin Stranere from Walter Financial encouraged everyone to register on our site.

Justin also mentioned about setting up a profile in Linked In.  As you send each other testimonials through
Linked In, it builds your credibility.

John Ralston of SiteCats thanked Bev Gwozdz from An Extra Hand Organizing for helping to organize John’s new office and getting a system in place.

12:30 p.m. Greg McGovern adjourned the meeting.
